UMWEB is a society (with place of residence in the City of Helsinki, Finland), whose purpose is to promote the diverse disciplines of the culturological area (art research, semiotics, musicology, discourse analysis, etc.) and to disseminate research papers and books of interest to the scientific community as well as the public and support all activities enhancing general interest in semiotics.
To accomplish its purpose UMWEB
1. Provides information pertaining to studying cultural studies and related topics;
2. Collects, keeps, produces and publishes culturological research material and publications, such as dissertations, monographs, edited collections, etc;
3. Supports afore mentioned activities, e.g., by organising study groups and occasions that promote the principles of the society also by participating in seminars in Finland and abroad;
4. Can give out grants, recognition and contest awards for persons with notable accomplishments in the field of cultural studies and associated disciplines;
5. Supports the production of events/programs pertaining cultural studies in broadcasting activities and the “new media”.
To support its activities the society may receive wills, donations, produce publications, own necessary loose or fixed materials and organise fundraising activities.
